The 8-10 month, residential program has four young adults (age 19-30) living in a house next door to the church, and working with the congregation to ex- plore spiritual practices, ministry lead- ership, community service (with a focus on environmental stewardship) and community living. Intentional com- munities are a new spin on an ancient model of Christian ministry, combin- ing spiritual prac- tices and disciple- ship with the simple tasks of everyday living. As young adults struggle to envi- sion a place for themselves in organized religion, many are gravitating towards intentional community as it carves out a meaningful new way of being the Church. Authors such as Shane Claiborne (The Simple Way) and Jonathan Wilson- Hargrove (Rutba House) are often cited as leaders in this "new-monastic" move- ment. Norval Intentional Community is cur- rently accepting applications for four participant openings. Applications and program details can be found at www. norvalunited.ca/intentionalcommunity.
