The Ride to Remember, which honours fallen peace officers, made a stop at Oakville's Coronation Park yesterday (Sept. 21). The 700-kilometre annual bike ride is undertaken by police service members from across Canada to raise awareness for the National Police Memorial. Halton police issued more than 2,200 tickets across the region during this year's Project Safe Start, an initiative intended to keep students safe during their first week back at school. The week-long campaign ran from Sept. 7-13 with officers making their presence felt in and around school zones in an effort to get motorists to slow down, watch for pedestrians, and pay attention to school crossing guards escorting students across busy intersections.
