The school announced recently that Nicolette Stewart and Sean Douglas of Brampton will assist head coach Willie Delas in the upcoming Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) season. Stewart joins the Bruins after a decade coaching at Brampton's St. Edmund Campion Secondary School, where she built the Bears into a provincial powerhouse. Campion has won six consecutive Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association (ROPSSAA) championships. He coached at Fletcher's Meadow from 2009 to 2013 and in 2011 helped guide the Arrows boys team to an OFSAA appearance. Douglas is an educational assistant with the Peel District School Board and is a part-time rehabilitation support worker. The Bruins will be in action on Oct. 1, facing an alumni squad during Sheridan Homecoming at the Trafalgar campus in Oakville. Two Oakville players used their bocce skills to win the Mississauga Italfest championship recently. The Oakville Italian Club's Gino Di Francesco and Vittorio Di Simone teamed up to win the six-team tournament featuring pairs from the Milton, Burlington, Woodbridge, Rainbow Creek and Martingrove Italian clubs. In the championship game Oakville defeated Milton by a 12-7 score. The Mississauga Italfest annually attracts 25,000 people. Bocce is one of many events held at the festival. The team went undefeated in league play, winning all 16 games and outscoring the opposition 90-7. Facing Clarkson -- the toughest team Oakville faced all year -- in the Cup final, Oakville won 3-2. Clarkson led the contest 1-0 with a goal midway through the first half, but Oakville tied the score on a goal by Stefani Koulovasilopoulos. Nayla Pietras put the team in the lead before the first half ended. Arianna Aloe scored the eventual winner to put Oakville up 3-1 in the second half, but Clarkson didn't quit. It scored a second goal with five minutes left and put pressure on the Oakville defence until the final whistle. Other members of the team include Meghan Belanger, Mia Cajic, Faith Humphrey, Brooke Husar, Kristina Martin, Megan Morin, Emily-Claire Ng, Anna Satterthwaite, Hannah Schelfhaut, Mya Sciberras, Michaela Silveira, Jessica Socha, Victoria Trojko and Maya Vidovich. Mackay backstops Team Ontario to national title Goalie Liam Mackay of Oakville's HardCor Lacrosse helped Team Ontario win all six of its games en route to capturing the Alumni Cup under-15 boys' Canadian Lacrosse Championship in Winnipeg. Mackay backstopped the squad throughout the tournament, seeing action in all six matches. The Halton Hills Bulldog played the entire championship game as Ontario defeated B.C. 13-9 to take the five-team tournament held on the Labour Day weekend. The Christ the King Secondary student allowed just 12 goals during the tournament. The Ontarians cruised through the preliminary round, posting victories over B.C. (10-6), Alberta (12-2), Manitoba (13-5) and Saskatchewan (12-0) and dumping Manitoba 16-2 in semifinal play.
