Oakville's Culture Days celebrations expands to multiple locations Oakville is expanding its celebration of Culture Days this year to include more locations around town showcasing free music, dance, theatre and art activities. Starting tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 30) and running through to Sunday (Oct. 2), Culture Days will be offering residents a chance to explore music, dance, visual arts and theatre at multiple locations. In addition to the Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre (QEPCCC), Downtown Oakville at Towne and Centennial squares; the Bronte Waterfront Park and Bronte Gazebo; Westwood Park and Heritage Square in Kerr Village; Oakville Public Library; Oakville Galleries and various local businesses will be participating. Registration for the second annual Oakville Vocal Arts Festival closes tomorrow Tomorrow (Friday) is the deadline to sign up for the Oakville Vocal Arts Festival. In its second year, the local festival aims to help develop young musical talent in Oakville. "The Oakville Vocal Arts Festival is dedicated to educate, encourage and inspire young vocal arts performers without the added stress of competition," said organizers. "Our first festival, last year, was a major success and we sent competitors to the Ontario Provincial Finals." Organizers recently announced the Goodale Miller Team as the festival's corporate sponsor. "... (We) feel that now with the Goodale Miller Team's sponsorship, we can excite and inspire more young talent in Halton," a media release stated. Innovative Arts, which provides training and performance opportunities for young performers in Oakville and Halton in musical theatre, also signed on as a secondary sponsor. The Oakville Vocal Arts Festival was inaugurated in the fall of 2015 by a group of members of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association, Hamilton/Halton branch. It is put on in partnership with the Oakville Arts Council and the Ontario Music Festivals Association (OMFA), and it has three adjudicators for voice, music theatre and singer/songwriter. The festival runs from Nov. 14-27, with a final concert scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. at Glen Abbey United Church. Each session will end with workshops for the students to work with the adjudicator. It will also feature classes in music theatre, classical voice, folk songs, sacred solos, Canadian composer and family ensembles, and singer/ songwriter classes designed for budding young composers.
