Firefighters had to pull back as the roof collapsed continued from p.1 At one point firefighters were forced to evacuate the dwelling for their safety. "The fire was heavily involved in the attic space and the roof started to come in so they pulled out," said Durdin. "Once the roof started to collapse, it was time to go defensive," the fire chief explained. No firefighters were injured. Durdin said two residents, who were home when the fire started, were able to get out safely. They emerged from the home just as a neighbour knocked on the door to warn them. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. Durdin said it started outside at the rear of the home in the vicinity of the deck. The fire then travelled up the side of the home and into the attic. "They haven't been able to identify an ignition source," said Durdin. The Ontario Fire Marshal's Office has been contacted. Damage to the residence has been estimated at approximately $1 million. 5 | Friday, September 16, 2016 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Residents will get an opportunity to voice concerns about airplane noise Thursday, Sept. 29. On May 5, 2015 Toronto Pearson's partner and Canada's air navigation service provider, NAV Canada, announced they would do an independent review of the Toronto airspace with the goal of identifying additional opportunities to reduce community noise exposure. Representatives from NAV Canada said this review is independent of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) and their airport operations and will be carried out by the thirdparty Helios, a UK aviation consultancy. The review team has arranged four community consultation dates, including one in Oakville. It will take place Sept. 29 at the Holiday Inn, 2525 Wyecroft Rd., from 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. Residents will be able to meet the review team, and express their thoughts and suggestions concerning the review's possible terms of reference.
