The Oakville Beaver, W ednesday M arch 1, 2006 - 21 Kreskin amazed audiences at an early age Continued from page 25 "I love my work," he said. "I've been extremely blessed, doing something I knew all my life I was going to do. I just knew this was going to be my livelihood." It all started when he was nine years old and he asked his broth er to hide a penny so they could play hot or cold. Usually, the per son who hides the object directs the other and gives hints to help them find it. Kreskin didn't need hints. T il never forget this moment," he said. "Joe hid the penny and I walked through my grandparent's kitchen, I walked into my uncle's bedroom and climbed up an old maroon chair I can picture it to this day, I found myself reaching behind a curtain rod, and there was the penny." Something "within," Kreskin says, drew him to it - hunches, intuition, feelings. "That was the beginning," he said. "In school my teachers remember vividly in show-andtell I would, once a week, perform and try to tell Gloria what movie she saw, or tell Jane what book she read. It all started there." Kreskin calls these powers a "gift of high sensitivity." "I think the ability is there for many, but because we speak and listen and read and write and communicate in ways that are so much more accessible, this ability has become almost lost in our system." It's comparable, he says, to the way someone is able to tell when a close friend is upset - they can read it in their body language, tone of voice and other physical signs, without having to be told. "The ability I think for every body is there, but most people have never developed it the way I have," he said. But reading minds isn't some thing Kreskin does all the time. "Before the show in Oakville, I will have to be alone in my dress ing room, undistracted to get my mind ready to go on stage," he said. "I could not do this all the time, I'd be a nervous wreck." The Amazing Kreskin appears tomorrow at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts at 8 p.m. Call 905-815-2021 for tickets. q £ / r t is t s PAINTING GET-AWAY GOLIGER'S TRAVELPIAJS - TICO #: 4175287.
