www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, October 6, 2016 | 34 Coat giveaway Oct. 15 arrives just in time for chilly weather The Bronte Village Stakeholders Coat Drive has been ongoing since August of this year and thanks to all the generous people who have donated to its Coat Re-Distribution Event -- the event is now on the calendar. The coat giveaway is Saturday, Oct. 15 at St. Dominic's School on Rebecca Street in Bronte. The Bronte Village Stakeholders is still accepting donations of gently-used, clean winter outerwear, of all sizes, and in men's, women's and children's styles. The cut off date for donations is Friday, Oct. 14. "We wish to thank the Oakville Fire Department Bronte Station for assisting with the collection," said organizer Linda Oliver. Donations can be dropped off at the front foyer of the Bronte Fire Station, located at Rebecca Street and Bronte Road. Invitations to the coat distribution event have been given to various service agencies in Oakville, including: Fare Share food bank, Halton Multicultural Council, Kerr Street Mission, Oak Park Neighbourhood Centre, SAVIS of Halton (Sexual Assault & Violence Intervention Services), and to local places of worship. Those with invitations are encouraged to attend between 9 a.m. and noon, however, are still welcome from noon to 3 p.m. when the doors open to the general public. Organizers advise anyone attending to bring their children with them so sizing will be appropriate. The number of items will be limited per person in attendance to allow enough sizes and choices for everyone. "We have lots of women's and men's coats and jackets so, if we don't have the quantity of children's sizes required... mom and/or dad could get something that is suitable," said Oliver. Invitations are not required for the general public opening, however, the limit of one coat or jacket per person attending will still apply. "Let's keep everyone warm this winter and make this drive a success with coats of all sizes for adults and children. The potential recipients will make the drive a success just by coming out and taking the warmth home with them," said Oliver. For more information, call 905-616-2928. In 2010, a group of local stakeholders/outreach groups from local churches and agencies, including Town councillors gathered to discern and assist with gaps in local services in the Bronte community.
