Halton Healthcare hosts `Mammothon' breast screening clinic Oct. 20 Halton Healthcare is stressing the importance of early detection by hosting its free "Mammothon" breast screening event at its Oakville, Milton and Georgetown hospitals on Thursday, Oct. 20. Women between the ages of 50-74 who haven't had a mammogram in the last two years are encouraged to register for a free breast screening at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, 3001 Hospital Gate; Milton District Hospital, 7030 Derry Rd.; or Georgetown Hospital, 1 Princess Anne Dr. No doctor's referrals are needed to book an appointment. "In Ontario, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, affecting one in nine women in their lifetime and the risk of developing breast cancer increases with age," Dr. Jillian Feberwee, lead radiologist for Women's Imaging at Halton Healthcare, said in a media release. "Due to misinformation, fear of bad news or concerns about mammograms, many women are not being screened regularly for breast cancer. Many women avoid or delay their regular mammogram -- the very test that could help save their life." The Mammothon is a one-day breast screening campaign organized by the Mississauga Halton Central West Regional Cancer Program.
