The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday March 22, 2006 - 29 For em erging designer Shao Jun, flowing, lightweight fabrics in paisley prints are key this season. They're enhanced by empire waists and wrap-around sashes that deli cately enhance the womanly form. The result is a beautiful and airy collection th at was inspired by director Zhang Zhi Mou's celebrat ed film, "Hero." Colors of blue, white and green symbolize the air and water them e within the movie. Flirty flowing chiffon dresses, chic blouses and sharp linen cropped pants have a fluid silhouette rem i niscent of water that atfds to their appeal. Shao Yang's foray into fashion began at a very yoting age. With an extensive collection of Barbie dolls, she dressed every one of them with wedding gowns of her own design made of handkerchiefs and tissue paper. Focusing on her creative energy at Fiorello H. LaGuardia School for the Fine Arts, Shao soon realized that as much as she loved fine arts, her true passion lay in fashion design. After graduation, she enrolled at the prestigious Parsons School of Design. Since her graduation, Shao has interned with Twinkle and Fiorucci and was an associate designer at Kay Unger New York. Feeling the need to express her creativity fur ther, she approached the CEO of Nemesis Records and became the designer/stylist for singer/song writer Kristine Sa. Through her label Shao Jun, Shao looks to not only introduce her aesthetic of beauty, but also to explore her Asian-American roots and convey certain aspects of the culture through her designs. The inspirations for her collection occasionally derive from her Asian heritage, revealing truly sophisti cated, unique modern pieces and artistry.
