Real Estate: The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday March 22, 2006 - 13 Think safety first for outdoor power equipment (NC)--Whether your yard is large or small, basic preparations must be taken every time you use outdoor power equipment. A few simple steps will help keep you safe and your equipment run ning smoothly. Mark Michaels, handheld products manager at Husqvarna, recommends that you perform the following tasks to help ensure that your projects are com pleted safely and efficiently. · Check your work area for sticks, rocks, toys, and other items that could damage your equipment or become pro jectiles if you hit them during operation. · Know your machine - where the controls are, what they do and what safety features are provided. · Dress properly for the job. Wear long pants (and protective chaps for chainsaw use), long-sleeved shirts, closed toe shoes or work boots, and ear and eye protection. · Fill up your gas tank in an outside area. Keep the gasoline in an approved container and stored in a well-ventilated area. Safety should also be your foremost consideration while you are operating your equipment. · Keep children and pets away from the work area. Never allow children to operate a push mower or sit on a riding mower - even with an adult. · Watch out for potential hazards such as electrical lines, low hanging tree limbs, stand ing water, and adjacent streets or roadways. · Always keep your hands and feet away from moving parts. Turn off the engine before working on any moving components. When working on mower blades or belts, the spark plug should also be disconnected. · Never mow a lawn or trim bushes when the yard is w et'- the chance of slipping is high er and wet grass clogs the cutting deck faster. Outdoor power equipment can be a convenient tool for helping your lawn look great, but these machines need to be operated carefully. Follow these guidelines to ensure your safety and get maximum productivity from your equipment. r o y a l lepage Sales Representative Royat LePage Real Estate Services Ltd., Broker Office: 905 .338.3737 Direct: 905 .849.3357 TOP 1% FOR ROYAL LePAGE IN CANADA COURT LOCATION Call Kate 905.849.3357 GREAT INVESTMENT Call Kate 905.849.3357 GREAT LOCATION!
