16 - The Oakville Beaver W eekend, Saturday March 25, 2006 The Oakville Awards for Business Excellence Celebrating achievement and raisins funds for our youth For more than a decade the Oakville Awards for Business Excellence (0ABE) has been encouraging and rewarding business excellence in our community. These prestigious awards are the result of a joint col laboration between the Rotary Club of Oakville West and the Oakville Chamber of Commerce. The awards are held every year to recognize the invaluable contribution business makes to our com m u nity as well as raise money for Oakville's youth. Every year we raise thousands of dollars through this event to support the Oakville Awards of Academic Excellence, the scholarship and bursary program for academic excellence in Oakville public and Catholic sec ondary schools in addition to a num ber of other youth initiatives supported by Oakville's Rotary Clubs. On the evening of April 6, 2005 we will be honoring the 2005 finalists and winners of this year's `Obies'. Congratulations to everyone for their fine work and out standing contribution to our community. We are also delighted to have Sheila Kuyper, 2005 Athena Award recipient and Senior Women's Canadian gold medal champion in women's sprint canoe, as our emcee for the evening. "Building awareness for Oakville businesses and rais ing money for young people is noteworthy and-provides opportunities for those that are successful to give back to their community," says Kuyper, who is also a teacher at Appleby College. "As an educator myself, I believe that our youth are the most valuable resource we have and it's im portant to provide them with opportunities that nurture, educate and support their passions. , "As well, these awards celebrate and recognize indi viduals for their courage to take risks and preserve beyond where most have turned back."
