Kailo program s are offered to all em ployees, physicians and volunteers free o f charge an d often include lunch or refreshments. "Kailo focuses on bolstering the physical, psychological, an d spiritual factors for health rather than on the traditional goals of reducing biom edical risk factors for illness. Its m otto, `Caring for ourselves as well as w e care for our patients', recognizes that, as caregivers, w e have to take time to look after ourselves so w e can reach out to others m ore effectively," adds Anna Rizzotto, Kailo Co-ordinator at HHS. "A nd w ith its m any diverse com ponents, Kailo has som ething for everyone - from belly-dancing and scrapbooking to brain gym and cooking - all designed to nurture the body and the mind. We also offer Kailo fo r One , a program designed to support and help em ployees cope with stress, anxiety, relationships and other personal issues." We have received funding for four n ew ICU beds a n d are p roceeding w ith a p lan n ed expansion of th e Unit to accom m odate these m uch n e e d e d beds. We are aw aiting approval o f the Satellite Dialysis Unit in Burlington an d w e are preparing to launch a capital cam paign in Milton to fund the acquisition o f a CT Scanner for MDH. Plans are also u n d erw ay for a Spring event at G eorgetow n H ospital to w elcom e the com m unity to th e hospital a n d share som e o f o u r achievem ents since the Janu ary 2 transfer. The HHS program is based on the successful w ork originated by the Mercy Medical Center. Since its launch last September, staff have enjoyed a variety of HHS Community Attitude Survey Jf J The phones will be ringing during March as Halton Healthcare Services (HHS) launches its biennial public opinion survey in the communities of Oakville, M ilton and Halton Hills. The random telephone survey w ill measure the attitudes and opinions of residents as they relate to the quality of care and services provided at Milton District Hospital, Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and Georgetown Hospital. The survey w ill be conducted by an independent public opinion research firm. Random calls w ill be made to a total of 600 households.
