Susan P ow ter far Coyotes settle for weekend split The Oakville Coyotes had a great start and a great end to the opening weekend of the M ajor Junior A roller hock ey season. Unfortunately, there was the middle p a r t... The Coyotes had their home opener Friday night and they earned a hard fought 10-8 win against last year's play off champions, the Niagara Panthers. There was no time to savour their triumph, however, as the weekend ushered in the first o f four showcase tournies on tap this season. Throughout-these four showcase events (including one hosted by Oakville on Saturday, June 17), the west and east division teams will play each other twice (the Coyotes are in the west division by the way). At last w eekend's first show case tournam ent, the Coyotes, unfortunately dropped the first two games before finally hitting the win column to round out the weekend, at least with a .500 ( 2 - 2 ) record. But more on that later. The star for the Coyotes in their Friday night season opener was rookie forward Shawn Snider who lit up the Niagara goalie for five of O akville's 10 goals.
