Later, other w eeklies like The Independent, The Star, The Sentinel and The Rec ord flew their journalistic banners here. And later still, in the 1920s, Gerry Mitchell founded the Oakville News in the building now occupied by The Jour nal. In carrying on the traditions established over the century by its noted pre decessors, this newspaper is extremely grateful for the community support that has enabled it to set new high standards in news and picture coverage and qual i ty. . . in advertising ex cellen ce. . . and in net paid circulation.
