www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, October 27, 2016 | 8 North American display garden kudos for Shell Park Oakville's Shell Park has been recognized with an award from a North American landscape design competition. Shell Park is located at 3307 Lakeshore Rd. W. and is on the north side of Lakeshore Road, opposite the lakefront in southwest Oakville. The All-American Selections (AAS), an independent, non-pro t organization that donates and tests new garden seed varieties handed Shell Park second place in the category of display gardens attracting 10,000-100,000 visitors per year. "The Town's horticultural staff put a lot of hard work and creativity into designing the Shell Park garden and we're very proud and thrilled to see their efforts receive this recognition," said Chris Mark, director of the Parks and Open Space department. To re ect the competition's theme of "pollinator education," horticulture staff created a garden that attracted large numbers of birds, bees and butter ies. All participating gardens were required to incorporate AAS winners -- new varieties of owers that have proved their superior garden performance across North America. Shell Park's garden included pollinatorfriendly AAS winning plants, such as leucanthemum, heptanthemum, rudbeckia, and buddelia, and by using all recycled materials, staff were able to add an insect nesting area which became home to many different insects and a place for bee larvae to hatch. Gardens were judged on their overall attractiveness, creativity of design, promotion to local media and visitors, quality of photos and the quality of AAS winning plants incorporated into the design. oakville.ca Intent to pass by-laws to introduce new ward boundaries for 2018 municipal election and to increase Council composition Monday, November 14, 2016, 7 p.m. Town Hall, Council Chamber 1225 Trafalgar Road Council will consider two by-laws with regards to the adoption of a new seven-ward option as well as an increase to Council composition at its meeting on November 14, 2016: · By-law 2016-109, a by-law to change the ward boundary lines and increase the number of wards to seven, and · By-law 2016-110, a by-law to increase the size of Council to 15 members.
