Halloween mild, not so the winter by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff 15 | Friday, October 28, 2016 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Celebrating 20 Years Little ghosts and goblins planning on trick-ortreating in Oakville Halloween night (Monday, Oct. 31) won't have to deal with any frightening weather as they do so. Meteorologist Dayna Vettese of the Oakvillebased The Weather Network, whose parent company is Pelmorex Media Inc., said Monday's forecast does not include wind or rain, and instead features some relatively mild temperatures. "It won't be as mild as it was last week, but certainly warmer than we have been experiencing this week. We're looking at temperatures during the day on Halloween of 11C for the Oakville area," said Vettese. "Our temperatures for trick-or-treat time will be about 8-9C. So, it will be a little bit cool. The kids will have to bundle up under the costumes, but we are not looking at any rain, so that's the good news." Looking past October, Vettese advised residents to brace themselves for a harsher winter than previously expected. She noted the next couple weeks would remain somewhat mild, however, this will change in mid- to late-November with the colder temperatures settling in. "For the Greater Toronto Area, typically in December, we see daytime highs of 2C or 3C. Closer to around 0C or -1C for January and around 0C or -1C for February," said Vettese. "So, we can expect on average for temperatures below that this year." Snowfall could also be in the forecast for the end of November with Vettese noting the hot summer heated up the Great Lakes and this could mean more snow. "They are fairly warm relative to the average. As soon as we get our first very cold shot of air over those lakes, we're setting up for an ideal lake-effect snow scenario," said Vettese.
