Proposed budget heading to council in December continued from p.4 The proposed budget breakdown includes: 11 per cent spent on emergency services; 11 per cent for infrastructure maintenance; 11 per cent for Oakville Transit; 11 per cent for recreation services; 7 per cent for Parks and Open Space; 23 per cent for corporate revenue and expenses; and 3 per cent for the Oakville Public Library. Some program enhancements recommended for 2017 include improvements to bylaw enforcement, traffic calming measures, and implementation of changes to the private tree bylaw to strengthen tree protection. Town staff are also recommending a capital budget of $122.8 million. Some of the main projects for 2017 include: · $13 million for the Trafalgar Park/ Oakville Arena revitalization project · $10.5 million for the reconstruction of the bridge at Lakeshore Road at Sixteen Mile Creek · $8.6 million for the Town's Road Resurfacing and Preservation Program · $7.6 million for the demolition of the former Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital · $6.6 million for LED street lighting · $4.7 million for the widening of Kerr Street and grade separation · $4.3 million for the purchase of new 30-foot conventional buses · $3.7 million for the Emerald Ash Borer Management Program · $3.2 million for replacement buses The Town will be looking for $176.7 million from the tax levy. "Council continues to work to build fiscally responsible budgets that make strategic investments in our community, while maintaining services for our residents. "Our decisions will be made in the context of keeping overall tax increases in line with inflation," stated Ward 6 Councillor and Budget Chair Tom Adams in a press release. "The Budget Committee will be reviewing the budget over the next few weeks before making a recommendation for council consideration on Dec. 12. I encourage residents to get involved by providing feedback to us on the proposed budget during our open and public process." Adams also noted some residents have raised concerns that the rising value in their home's assessment may increase their property taxes. He said taxes don't automatically go up just because the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) property assessment went up. "The Town does not collect any additional property tax revenue as a result of assessment increases," said Adams in a press release. "Overall tax rates are reduced to compensate for the increased assessment values. Oakville saw a 30 per cent average assessment increase. If your assessment increase was below 30 per cent, you will get a reduction in property taxes due to the assessment change. If your assessment change was more than 30 per cent, you will see an increase due to the change in property assessment phased in over four years." The Town will begin holding Budget Open Houses on Saturday (Nov. 19) at Glen Abbey Community Centre at 1415 Third Line from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and on Monday (Nov. 21) at the Oakville Public Library Central Branch at 120 Navy St., from 7 -8 p.m. Public delegations to the Budget Committee will take place at Town Hall Tuesday (Nov. 22) at 9:30 a.m. and Thursday (Nov. 24) at 7 p.m. Budget Committee deliberations and recommendations will take place on Tuesday (Dec. 6) at Town Hall at 9:30 a.m. The budget will go before council for final approval on Monday (Dec. 12) at Town Hall at 7 p.m. For more information visit www.oakville.ca.Oakville Town Hall is located at 1225 Trafalgar Rd. 11 | Friday, November 18, 2016 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com We make you DO IT YOURSELF EVENT FREE UNDERPAD when you purchase select in-stock carpet *See in store for details. PAY NO TAX The field of cosmetic dentistry is constantly changing and improving, and one of the most exciting dental digital advances is Digital Smile Design (DSD). DSD is an innovative system that combines high definition imaging technology, and advanced modeling techniques to develop a precise plan, for a wide array of procedures including implants, veneers, crowns, and overlays. Part of what makes DSD so exciting is that patients can "try on" their smiles before starting treatment. Once you and your dentist have agreed upon the final aesthetics, a digital mock-up can be printed out for you to view-and even to wear. The 3D printed model can be worn over your natural teeth to give you the most realistic preview possible. Additionally, videos can be created to further help you visualize every detail. The meticulous pre-treatment process can provide you with an enhanced peace-of-mind, and reduce any concerns that the outcomes will be different than what you hoped for. Thus complex procedures like a Smile Facelift can be visualized before starting the treatment. We would be happy to see you for a complementary consultation if you feel you are a good candidate.
