www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, November 18, 2016 | 4 LexusofoakviLLe.ca Town looks at budget lines for setting 2017 property tax rates by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff Oakville residents can expect a 1.83 per cent hike to their 2017 property tax bill -- if the Town's proposed budget gets approved Dec. 12. The 2017 Oakville Budget Committee is eyeing a 2.80 per cent total increase to its portion of the overall tax bill. However, the overall hike will be reduced once the Town's increase is combined with a proposed 1.9 per cent increase in Halton Region taxes and an expected zero per cent hike in education rates. Town staff presented the budget committee with an overview of the proposed budget during a Tuesday (Nov. 15) meeting. The increase would see residential property taxes go up by $15.14 per $100,000 of assessment, meaning the owner of a home assessed at $700,000 would pay an additional $105.98 per year or $2.04 per week. The Town's Deputy Treasurer and Director of Financial Planning Nancy Sully said the budget is in keeping with the budget committee's direction of keeping overall property tax increases in line with inflation. "There are no service reductions in our recommended budget," said Sully. "Our budget ensures the programs and services valued by our residents are maintained ** F SPORT SERIES 2 Shown ** Tom Adams and ensures our strong financial position is also maintained. Our budget incorporates the operating costs of completed capital projects and continues our past practice of ensuring sufficient funding for infrastructure renewal. In order to achieve the budget guideline there are no new requests being brought forward for council's consideration at this time."
