The provincial honour recognizes the social and economic contributions of Ontario' s college graduates in six categories. Launched in 1992 to mark the 25th anniver sary of Ontario colleges, the annual Premier' s Awards honour graduates from the province' s 2 4 public colleges. While this year' s nominees didn't take home the top prize during the gala event in Toronto held Nov. 21, Sheridan alumni have done so since the awards' inception 15 times. This year' s nominees were: successful musicals, just a year after graduating from Sheridan' s Music Theatre Performance program in 2012. As a dancer, singer and actress, she has al ready built a career in musical theatre with more than 13 performance credits, including the Ca nadian productions of RENT, Hairspray, and the touring and Broadway companies of The Book o f Mormon, where she plays the role of female swing and understudy for the lead actress in the musical. Charmaine Hammond (community services) Hammond is a best-selling author, keynote speaker, expert in conflict resolution and media tion, and a social entrepreneur. He now collects, preserves, and promotes hockey history as curator of the Hockey Hall of Fame museum. Pritchard also spends approximately 160 days per year travelling with hockey' s top prize, the Stanley Cup trophy, to bring it closer to fans. · · · In addition to the nominees, Sheridan was also represented at this year' s gala by the event' s master of ceremonies, James Cunningham. Cunningham, a comedian and host of the TV show Eat St., has his theatrical roots in Sheridan, where he graduated from the school' s theatre and drama studies program. Gloria Peckham (health sciences) Kent Monkman (creative arts/design) As one of Canada' s pre-eminent contemporary artists, Monkman is re nowned for his paintings, films, instal lations and performances, which recast historical depictions of First Nations people in witty, provocative ways. "Of Cree descent, he is an important voice highlighting the darker aspects of colonialism, and has influenced both Peckham is the head instructor for the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides where she developed the Seizure Response Dog Guide and Diabetic Alert Dog Guide programs, the first of their kind in Canada.
