"W e've been so blessed with the support we've received from the local community. This is our way of giving back," said Larissa. "If people want to come watch, they're more than welcome to. W e're going to have food and drinks." To pay for costs associated with hosting a game, the three women set up a gofundme account earlier this year, with a goal of raising $5,000. The families have surpassed the target, collecting $8,130 as of Nov. 29. Larissa said they are "shocked" they received more funds than expected. "Even as we get more people interested in the memorial hockey game, the level of support we've received has been outstanding. Since the day it happened, to this very day, almost a year later, (the support has been great)," said Larissa. While the Minor Oaks Hockey Association (MOHA) is sponsoring the game, funds from the campaign paid for food, silent auction items and other expenses. "MOHA has been phenomenal in providing support, sponsoring the game, helping us ^ We want to know we're impacting somebody in the Oakville community. We want to keep it targeted to something hockey-related, so it honours Michael and Timothy. Someone will get to continue to play who maybe wouldn't get to. 99 Larissa Calderone maybe wouldn't get to," said Larissa. The game will feature two teams, unnamed at this point, with 30 players. The Town set a limit of 35, so there is room for a few more to sit on the benches. "W e've made the jerseys in memory of both Michael and Timmy. We just made them different colours, a home and away jersey," said Larissa. "We have friends and families playing, and anyone from the community that has volunteered, is who we have right now." Nearly a year has passed since the sudden deaths of Michael and Timothy, and members of both families remain "very shattered," Larissa said. "W hen you lose your child, it' s extremely difficult. My brother and Timothy were still young. That shock factor still weighs in that they're never coming back," said Larissa. The free-entry game for spectators will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a silent auction, followed by the puck drop at 11 a.m. in Rink No. 1. Surplus money obtained from the gofundme initiative will be given back to the community to help families pay for their children to play hockey. "We will be picking families that can't afford to send their children to play hockey. We will be sponsoring them for the year," said Larissa. Although no specific charities have been selected yet for donations, the trio wants to have a "local impact" with their choices, Larissa said.
