Over the last few months, she's been helping fellow Oakville Sewing Forum member Heather Albanese create `angel gowns.' Sewing group gets busy Albanese, who makes her home in neighbouring Burlington, had shared with the sewing group, which meets monthly at Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre (Q EPCCC), how meaningful it was for her to create these smaller items that celebrates a child' s short life and brings comfort to the grieving parents. "It just seemed like such a wonderful idea taking recycled wedding dresses and turning them into bereavement gowns for preemies (who don't survive) and stillborns," O'Connell told the O akville B eaver recently. Forever loved "The dresses are donated, the time of the people who make the gowns is donated and then the gowns are donated to an organization called Forever Loved Angel Gowns," she said. Albanese is part of the Forever Loved Angel Gowns network of volunteers, O'Connell continued, which delivers the gowns, bonnets, blankets, vests and other similar items to hospitals to be handed out to parents free of charge. They've been made available to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH), Toronto's Sick Kids, Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington and McMaster Children's Hospital in Hamilton. O'Connell, an accountant by trade and hobby seamstress, says she's been helping out in anyway she can, spending about 15-20 hours a week carefully deconstructing a wedding dress by removing beading, lace, ribbon, appliques and washing the fabric. She' s de-constructed about two dozen wedding dresses and given the materials to Albanese. Creating the gowns She has also created about a dozen of the tiny "angel gowns" herself. O'Connell says she gets satisfaction from helping. One dress typically makes about 20 tiny gowns. She said she also learned through research that more boys die than girls in these circumstances, so she's been trying to create more items for boys. "I never knew there was such a need for something like this, but when I found out that there was, any type of children's charity appeals to me so it seemed like a natural fit," she said. Virtually anyone can achieve a strong, functional bite and beautiful, straight teeth with the orthodontic options that are now available. For optimal results, it's important to utilise the best method for your needs and goals. At our state-of-the-art practice, our experienced dentists offer conventional metal and ceramic braces as well as Invisalign® clear aligners. Each technique offers unique benefits. One treatment is not necessarily "better" than the other; however, there are certain anatomic indicators that could make one approach more effective for you than another. During your initial consultation, one of our skilled dental professionals will perform a thorough oral evaluation to determine which option or options can help you achieve the smile of your dreams. Metal (and more recently ceramic) braces have long been used to address a comprehensive range of alignment and bite issues, including crowding, gaps, overbite, underbite, and crossbite. Invisalign® can also treat a broad array of concerns, although some instances of severe crowding or misalignment may be more effectively corrected using traditional orthodontics. Additionally, Invisalign® may not be right for patients who grind their teeth at night (as this could damage the aligner trays), or who anticipate difficulty wearing the trays for at least 22-23 hours per day. In addition to your personal preferences and lifestyle habits, many factors will be considered to determine the ideal orthodontic approach. It's not uncommon for patients to favour a particular technique, and we do our best to honour these preferences. Above all, however, our priorities are to provide you with the most effective and safest treatment possible. /c v B o o t wa Ik-on-air D o c to rs re c o m m e n d th e kyBoot "kyBoots help you keep balance and activate your muscles, from your toes to your back: they are helpful in the treatment of pain in the heels and forefeet, and are a method of choice to support the treatment o f pain in the Achilles tendon and back." -D r.
