www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, December 16, 2016 | 10 Collecting gifts for homeless teens The Drew Hildebrand Teen Benefit Fund is as sembling 200 holiday gift boxes for teens in need at four local youth homeless shelters, including Oakville Community Home. "It's hard to believe three in 100 youths in our local communities are homeless. The ratio is 25 male, 75 female," stated a media release. "Please remember our homeless teens this holiday sea son. They are often a forgotten group." The Teen Benefit Fund offers several ways to help: drop off a gift; attach a Christmas card to be sent with your gift; donate to Drew's Fund at www.dhtbf.com, and receive a tax receipt. Most needed items for youths include: school supplies; backpacks; fleece/hoodies; T-shirts and lounge pants; socks and underwear; hats and gloves; gift cards; blankets and towels; twin-size sheets; mugs and bowls; laundry soap; phone cards; non-perishable food; toiletries. Donations will be accepted until Sunday (Dec. 18) at 2162 Phillips Court. The Drew Hildebrand Teen Benefit Fund was created in memory of Drew Hildebrand, 16, who died as a victim of teen violence on April 8, 2008. Consumets stand to benefit from CETA " M e r r y , continued from p.6 Both the Oakville and Canadian chambers of commerce support ratification of CETA, because it reduces trade barriers, provides export oppor tunities and will lower prices for consumers. As vice president of the Canadian European Parlia mentary Association, I have seen general agree ment amongst my European counterparts about the benefits of this agreement for their countries. CETA will simplify the trade that already ex ists and make products more affordable to con sumers in both jurisdictions. Some individuals and groups in Oakville have concerns about free trade agreements hamper ing Canada's ability to regulate, and to protect the public interest. I want to reassure Oakvillians CETA is sig nificantly different from prior agreements. CETA L e t us g e t you to an d fro m y o u r C h ris tm a s g e t-to g e th e r s . Also, CETA safeguards health, safety and environmen tal protections. Canada and the EU have taken a progressive approach to this agreement, and I believe CETA steers clear of problematic terms seen in the past. In summary, a trade agreement with the Eu ropean Union is good business for Canada and Oakville. Tike many communities across Can ada, Oakville depends on free and open global trade to maintain our high standard of living. Through my advocacy in the House of Com mons and my role as Chair of the Automotive Caucus, I am working to ensure that Bill C-30, which would implement CETA, is passed by Parliament.
