"But you learn you're not as good as you think you are. It was a humbling year, but you grow from that. I'm counting on being a better player in the spring and being a better player in the fall." While Rourke knew that it wouldn't be an easy road, he could have never antici pated what lay ahead. He regrets none of it, though. Some people suggested he could have got a better offer (meaning a bigger school) if he held out until the spring, but Rourke is con fident he accepted the best offer. "I want to give myself the best opportu nity to play," he said. So with the recruiting process behind him, he's looking forward to meeting his new teammates, working with the Ohio coaching staff and learning the playbook. Most of all, his looking forward to repre senting his family the best he can. "To have the type of support I've had -- who puts their life on hold like that? My par ents spent more than a year apart. My broth er rode the bench (in Alabama) when he could have been playing at home. And they did it for me," he said. "Maybe it is a little crazy, but it's a great demonstration of how loved I am. Some day I hope to reciprocate." Trinity's title defence off to perfect start, but tests lie ahead By Herb Garbutt O akville Beaver staff Winning is often the best recruiting tool for high school hockey, and coming off a Halton championship the Holy Trinity Titans have re loaded for another run at the title. "A lot of the guys from rep saw how much fun high school hockey is and that we're well coached," said the Titans' Jacob Moro. "On paper, we're stronger than last year and we have high hopes for this season." The early results would back that up as Trinity has outscored its opponents 30-5 on its way to a 5-0-0 record. Even with seven players out with the flu, including its top two scorers Matt Palucci and Jeff Rice, Trin ity still had enough to overcome Aquinas, which came into Wednesday's game with a 3-1-0 record. The Titans got goals from five players -- Moro, Kyle Kolwich, Marley An gus, Justin Lyttle and Sheldon Nunes -- in the 5-3 win. "We have offence to burn," said Trinity coach Aaron Consoli. "Every line can score, we've got a good defence but there's still a lot to work on." The coach's words of caution come from knowing that things are about to get much Holy Trinity's Robert Giunta (centre) battles with Aquinas' Josh Aloe (left) and Sandro Sevrin during Tuesday's Halton boys' high school hockey game Wednesday. With a tournament format in the play offs, upsets are bound to happen. Last year, the Titans knocked off first-place Blakelock in the semifinals and the champi onship game featured the third (Trinity) and fifth (Loyola) seeds. "This league is difficult to get out of," Consoli said. "There are a lot of good teams and with the structure of the playoffs, the quarters, semis and final are all one-game eliminations. You have to play your best to get out of Halton and you need a bit of luck, too." / ro u t a r D a ily L iv in g access abilities I | Y o u r a b ility ility s to re .O u r p assion.
