Residents are being encouraged to come out and cheer on the Blades as they battle the Georgetown Raiders -- in what's being billed the Holiday Fire Safety Night. Organized by Oakville Fire and Oakville Blades, free winter gloves will be given to the first 250 people in attendance (courtesy of Scotiabank) and there will be free prize draws between periods. Minor Oaks Hockey Association (MOHA) players can also fill out a ballot for a chance to win a free breakfast at Cora Breakfast and Lunch (Dorval Drive at Queen Elizabeth Way location) for their respective team. Holiday Fire Safety Night takes place at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex, 3070 Neyagawa Blvd. Puck drop is at 7:15 p.m., followed by in s id e t o d a y 's game time at 7:30 p.m. "Our fam ous m ascot Sparky the fire dog will be doing a p uck drop with the Oakville Blades at center ice," said Glenn Barwell, public education/special projects officer for Oakville Fire, in a release. It will assist Oakville Fire in shining a light on the need for holiday fire safety. "The holidays can be one of the m ost dangerous times of the year for hom e fires," said Barwell. Oakville Fire is urging people to m ake a fire safety list and check it twice: · stay in the kitchen when cooking; · if you sm oke, sm oke outside; · drink responsibly.
