The initial pair of gatherings included one Jan. 10 and another Tuesday, Jan. 17 to be held in the Royal LePage office on North Service Road West. On Jan. 10, George How Pak Hing, Horizon vice-president of membership, chaired the event, while the Jan. 17 function will be an open house featuring Roger Caeser, a two-time semifinalist at the World Championship of Public Speaking. Horizon, one of numerous Oakville Toastmas ters, provides a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills. Through weekly meetings, members are given the opportunity to practise conducting meetings, giving impromptu speeches, presenting prepared speeches and offering constructive evaluation. Horizon was officially chartered as a Toast masters Club on Dec. 12, 2012 and has attained President Distinguished Club status. In 2015-16, the club won three out of the five Area 35 speech contests. The Jan.17 meeting runs 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Royal LePage office, in the training room, 251 North Service Rd.
