The poem, along with a bouquet of flowers, was placed near the intersection of Grosvenor Street and Grange Road, where Wake happily greeted and as sisted children and parents with crossing the street every day for 14 years. Students gave her hugs, dogs eagerly accepted treats from her, and parents thought she was great -- all in a dayfe work for Wake, who immigrated to Canada from Scotland in 1957, eventually moving to Oakville with her husband. After an established career in retail management, Wake retired, but quickly found she needed some thing to do. Wake became a crossing guard at Falgarwood Public School in December 2002. For many of the students and their parents, Wake became much more than a crossing guard-- she felt like a part of their family Robin Reid and her three children knew Wake for 1 1 years.
