The host Angels, who are the two-time defending Ontario Cup champs, recovered from a 1-0 deficit to take a 2-1 lead before Oshawa mounted their own two-goal comeback, the win ner coming on a penalty shot in the waning min utes. Stefanie DeBoer opened the scoring, heading in a pass from Marisa Videc. Anne Friedland gave Oakville its shortlived 2-1 lead on a nice shot under the crossbar. Oakville got their revenge the following week (July 20) with a 3-1 win in Oshawa. Oakville goals were scored by Erica Taugher, Jenna Sporta and Megan Vander Vliet. Oakville's league record now stands at 4-1-2. In earlier league action, Oakville settled for a 1-1 tie after Whitby scored a late equalizer to send them home with a point. But with their semifinal game against Sudbury tied 1-1 at the end of regulation and overtime, Oakville lost the dreaded shootout 3-2 (with Lauren Glover and Stefanie DeBoer finding the net). Down 1-0 after the first half, Oakville tied it up on a blast by Stefanie DeBoer. The Angels opened the tourney with a 4-1 win over the underage Scarborough Scorpions. Goals were scored by Courtney Cherrett (2), Marisa Videc and Jenna Sporta. Scarborough's lone goal came late in the game with the Angels down to nine players, due to injury. A late goal by Oakville salvaged a 2-2 tie in the second game against Kitchener Spirit. Goal scorers were Courtney Cherrett and Stefanie DeBoer. Sunday morning, saw the Angels needing a win against the Ohio Dynamo who had won both of their previous contests to advance to the semis, and they came through, 1-0.
