Walker, 13, finished fifth in the novice girls competi tion, which more than satisfied the top-10 designation her coach Nancy Lemaire suggested was an attainable goal the week before nationals. W alker's overall score of 117.31 was good enough to top 13 other novice skaters who had advanced to nationals. Natalie Walker performs at the Canadian Tire national skating championships in Ottawa earlier this week. Her combined short and free program scores totalled 117.31 points, her best effort ever. | Photo by Danielle Earl - Special to the Post Finishing first was Walker' s Milton Skating Club teammate Catherine Carle, whose 133.73-point total eclipsed the Canadian standard she set at the Skate Canada Challenge earlier this season. Walker was fifth after her short program, but despite the third best score in the free program, remained in fifth overall, just 2 .6 5 points short of making the po dium. Walker, a Grade 8 student at W I. Dick Middle School in Milton, will now move up to the junior ranks for competitions next season. Another Oakville competitor, Kaitlyn Chubb, with new partner Alex Gunther, finished 15th in junior dance. Chubb, although she trains in Ottawa, is a mem ber of Skate Oakville. k w ik k e r ^ Follow Halton sports on Twitter: @postbeaversport (Kevin Nagel, Burlington Post, Oakville Beaver) @miltononsports (Steve Leblanc, Milton Canadian Champion) @ herbgarbutt Hr (Post, Beaver, Champion) Jr. A Blades trade for `im pac t player Sal Filice The Oakville Blades added an im pact player at the trade deadline. The Blades acquired defenceman Sal Filice from the Toronto Jr. Canadiens in exchange for Brayden Sampson prior to the Ontario Ju nior Hockey League' s Jan. 10 deadline. Filice, 20, had three goals and 15 assists in 3 4 games in his third season with the Habs. "A lot of people in our organization were familiar with him and we identified him pretty early on (as a player who could help)," said Blades general manager Jordan Selinger. "He was everything we could have hoped for. You could see him on the bench helping the younger D. That' s what (Jr. Canadiens coach) Jeff Angelidis told us, it' s almost like getting another coach." Filice had an assist in each of the Blades' three wins last weekend as Oakville, 2 6 -1 2 3, increased its lead atop the South Division to nine points over St. Michael's. Oakville defeated Orangeville 4 -3 last Friday, Milton, 4 -3 , on Saturday and Aurora, 5-2, on Sunday. "W e gave up a great kid in Brayden Samp son ," Selinger said. "Unfortunately, that' s who they wanted and you have to give up a good player to get a good player." The Blades now play five times in eight days, all on the road, beginning tonight (Fri day). -- H erb G arbutt k First-step quickness * Reaction skills * Puck control * Power & acceleration * Explosiveness I * Puckwork implemented throughout the program k An excellent studentto-instructor ratio AGE & LEVELS DAYS TIMES PRICE W IN T E R /S P R IN G 2 0 1 7 30-minute classesl Session 3 timeslots: SAT: 9am, 9:30am, 10am, 10:45am, 11:15am, 11:45am 77 weeks $247.50 +tax Feb 1 8 -A p r 29 k 7-9 Rep k 10-13 Rep SUN: 9am, 9:30am, 11 weeks $247.50 +tax Feb 1 9 -A p r 30 10am, 10:30am 9 weeks MON: 1pm, 1:30pm Fgj} g _ A 24 $180.00 +tax 8-12 HL k 9-13 Rep k 10-12 Rep 13-15 Rep k 10-13 Rep Thurs Thurs Fri Fri Sat Sat Sun 5:00pm 6:00pm 5:30pm 6:30pm 9:00am 10:00am 9:30am $320 +tax $320 +tax $288 +tax $288 +tax $256 +tax $256 +tax $256 +tax WED: 6pm, 6:30pm 11 weeks $275.00 +tax Feb 1 5 -A p r 26 W W W .W AVEH0CKEY.CA R egister 905-3 36 -3 43 4 x 1 0 o r p ro g ra m s @ w a v e h o c ke y .n e t M PENTECOSTAL i M i l If you'd like to advertise your place of worship in this feature please c a llJ E N N IF E R G O U L D 289-293-0683 PRESBYTERIAN Knox Presbyterian Church warmly welcomes you to grow with us in faith this Sunday Jan 2 2 -TwoServices 9:00 and 10:30.
