According to Rogers spokesman Taanta Gupta, a CN Rail crew performing mainte nance work on the Ninth Line rail bridge in Oakville cut through a major fibre optic cable around 10 a.m. The result was that Rogers' high-speed internet service went down throughout the province and was not restored until 4 p.m. Surveyor h it o n h ig h w a y su ccu m b s t o in ju r ie s The 17-year old Brampton sur veyor struck by a tractor trailer June 14th while work ing on Dundas Street in Oakville has succumbed to his injuries. Some of Rogers' cable televi sion programming was interrupt ed as well and while temporary technological solutions were found for most shows, that sys tem was not completely restored until 7 p.m. Cable television in Oakville was not affected (locally this is provided by Cogeco) but some internet users were left dark. The fibre optic cable that was severed connects most customers with the American backbone of its internet system, said Gupta. As for the television compo nent, Gupta explained that some of the programs impacted had to be captured "over the air" via satellite. While not offering as clear a signal as that provided by fibre optics, Gupta said this option allowed shows to continue uninterrupted. Programming affected includ ed ROB-TV, Treehouse, Golf, Speedvision, CP24, BET, Stocks and TNN. a Sm art a n d S i m p l e W a y to I n v e s t in Stocks Edward Jones is one o f the few places where you can dollar cost average into individual stocks.
