Friday, August 25, 2000 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER 17 First annual Mattamy Poker Run Sept 10th he employees and suppliers of Mattamy Homes have noted the commitment of our President, Peter Gilgan, to the Oakville Y's Capital Campaign. We want ed m help the Oakville community by raising funds for the Y, too -- to make sure that Oakville has the full-service YMCA facility its residents need and w ant Many of Mattamy's employees are motorcycle enthusiasts, so we decided to host a Motorcycle Poker Run. The Run will take place Sunday, Sept. 10th. It will go north from Oakville and along the escarpment, with stops along the way to pick up cards for the poker hands. We have just about finalized the route and are now putting the final touches on arrangements for the barbeque lunch and a great prize table. Andy Stokes will act as our MC and YMCA Camp Staff Director Leslie Babel will be the disk jockey, providing great music for our entertainment at lunch. Riders will pay a $15 entry fee, and passengers will pay $10. This fee includes free refreshments and lunch. Lunch will be available to non-partici pants at minimal cost and we invite V everyone to join us, have something to eat and see some very awesome motor cycles! Many Mattamy suppliers have come on board as sponsors and supporters and 'w e appreciate their assistance in making this a great event. For example, Lou Ryan of Pollard Windows is part of the organizing'committee. Volunteers from Mattamy and the Oakville Y will be on hand at the various stops along the way and, of course, at the lunch and awards ceremony after the Run. This is the first event of this nature held in Oakville (as far as we know) and it is certainly a first for Mattamy employ ees and suppliers who are organizing the event We have spread the word about our Poker Run to many companies and individual bikers. Some members of the Halton Regional Police Service own bikes and have indicated an interest in joining us on the Run. Because this is a first for us, we don't know how many participants and specta tors to expect -- it could be 50; it could be 500! W hat we do know is that every one who comes out on Sep. 10th will have a great time and that we will raise a lot of dollars for an important project -- the building of the new YMCA of Oakville.
