A nd now the W hite O aks students are letting it be know n that they are not happy w ith the situation. F or G rade 10 student Sean K osak, it has hit him right in the pocket book. "I took football courses throughout the sum m er, I was going to sign up this year and I bought all my equipm ent, and I ca n 't use it." K osak w as part o f a collection o f student protesters that had gath ered outside o f the school on M cC raney Street. A trio o f high school students, Selina O 'Q uinn (Gr. 11), A shley H olm es (Gr. 11) and L eila L aqua (Gr. 10) said they kicked o ff the pro test Thursday. O 'Q uinn vow ed it w ould continue "until w e get our sports back." T he three have been skipping their classes and are being jo in ed by a steady stream o f placard-carrying students, w hose num bers vary during the course o f the day. "W e've been getting lots o f support," said H olm es, "even like the city buses, the school buses, taxis, the police." The situation, is unfair, added O 'Quinn. `T h e only ones that get all their sports are C atholic schools. They have their football and stuff. We d o n 't even have football. We have nothing," said O 'Quinn. N ot quite true. W hite O aks does have both ju n io r and senior girls basketball, but nothing else.. A t the other end o f the spectrum , south o f the Q.E.W ., O akville Trafalgar High School, w hich is another O akville public high school, is fielding alm ost the com plete slate o f fall team s, including cross country, ju n io r and senior girls field hockey, ju n io r and senior girls basketball, ju n io r and senior boys volleyball and senior boys football.
