Strong on ZENON board Charitable program from The Bay aiding cancer research The Bay has just launched a new charitable program aimed at raising millions of dollars to sup port cancer wellness. The Well Into the Future (WITF) initiative links together all corporate and philanthropic donations, cause marketing and charitable initiatives under one umbrella. The Bay has partnered with the Canadian Cancer Society; Look Good Feel Better, Wellspring and Candlelighters Canada which means all funds raised through WITF will go to these charities. As an official launch to the program, The Bay is holding a Donate a Dollar campaign in its stores beginning on Oct. 16th and running through Oct. 29th. Bach $1 donating added to a cus tomer's bill will be matched by The Bay. The campaign will run every October and June to mark cancer survivor month. Next month T h e. Bay will announce a special Holiday char ity campaign that will raise over $1 million for WITF. Company officials believed these fundrais ing efforts will net over $1.3 mil lion for cancer wellness by the end of December. Each year, The Bay will direct all corporate funds designated for charity to the WITF program and will develop special campaigns throughout the year allow Bay associates and customers to make WITF contributions. The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) is a national community based organization of volunteers whose mission is the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of people living with cancer. Look Good Feel Better is a national program sponsored by the Canadian Cosmetic Toiletry and Fragrance Association to help women living with cancer deal with the appearance-related side-effects of cancer treatment. Funds raised go towards the development of workshop mate rials. Wellspring is a support centre that provides programs to meet the emotional, psychological, spiritual and informational needs of cancer patients and their fami lies. Programs are provided at no charge in a non-threatening envi ronment where comfort and con fidentiality are assured. Funds raised through WITF will help rollout the Wellspring model to cancer support centres across Canada. Candlelighters Canada is a national organization assisting families of children with cancer as they cope with the unique impact of the illness and its treat ment. Funds raised through WITF will ensure that the spe cialized needs of children with cancer are addressed through community paediatric programs across Canada. The mall launched the program last year th at's designed to help schools earn some extra funds to sup port school projects. Participating schools encouraged their students, teachers, and friends to shop at O akville Place and earn points for th eir favourite school. Shoppers turned in their receip ts at the Concierge Kiosk at Oakville Place and their totals were recorded for the school o f their choice. The final totals were then divided by the num ber o f students per school to deter mine which schools earned the most points per student. This year's event started on Aug. 1st and will run to Oct. 31st. W ith two weeks left in the campaign, there are over 50 schools participating in the event. At the completion o f the prom otion, there will be three w in ners: the first place w inner will receive a cheque for $5,000; the sec ond place w inner will receive a cheque for $3,000; and the third place w inner will receive a cheque for $2,000.
