On the heels of an opening win, 2-1, over the Burlington Eagles, they won a tournament in Peterborough. Although outshot in their opening game, awesome goaltend ing by Myles Harper helped Oakville to a 3-0 win over Newmarket. Goals were scored by Andrew Harmgardt, Mike Turner and Jonathan Fairclough. Assists went to Fairclough, Corey Martin, Brennan Kerr and Paul O'Hara. MVP went to Harper. Oakville, again, took advantage of great defence and awe some goaltending by Oliver Wren to shutout the GTHL's Ted Reeve Thunders 3-0. Goals were scored by Jonathan Fairclough, Paul O'Hara and Corey Martin. Assists to Brennan Kerr, Fairclough, Mike Turner and Shane Jackman. MVP went to Wren. Oakville won their must-win third game 2-1 over Brampton. Goals were scored by Corey Martin and Mike Turner. Assists went to Andrew Harmgardt and Martin. MVP went to Martin. An unassisted marker by Jonathan Fairclough with 53 sec onds left in the championship game gave Oakville another 2-1 win, this one over Toronto East Enders. First loss at Aeros tournament The Oakville Hornets peewee BB rep hockey team sponsored by CIBC and Telus have started their season with a bang. In eight games the girls have only one loss and have outscored their opponents 43-4. In home and away exhibition play vs. the Hamilton Hawks the Hornets won 4-0 and 9-0. At the Beatrice Aeros tournament the Hornets made it to the championship game before suffering their first loss, 2-0, against a very talented team from Sault Ste Marie. In the preliminary round Oakville beat Michigan 9-0 and posted 5-0 wins over Aurora and Rochester. In the semi final Whitby scored the first goal of the tour nament against Oakville but Oakville replied with three of their own. In league play the Hornets defeated Etobicoke 8-1. GLENLEVEN'S Last m inute win in hom e opener The peewee B Oakville Hornets hockey team, sponsored by CIBC and Medela Canada, kicked off their regular season with an exciting 3-2 last minute win over Halton Hills Twisters on Saturday, Oct. 14. Liz Edmunds' second goal of the game, after being put in alone on the Twister goalie on a pass from Melissa Snedden, was the win ner with just 70 seconds remaining. Oakville's strong forechecking then preserved that lead. Sarah Grigor scored the other Oakville goal. Other assists went to Stephanie Latty, Ryan Ferguson and Tenille Clarke. A back and forth game, Oakville erased a 1-0 deficit to go up 2-1 before Halton Hills tied it up at 2-2. The teams certainly knew each other very well as they also hooked up for two exhibition games, both won by Oakville. On Sept. 24, the Hornets won 4-1 in Acton with Liz Edmunds having a hand in all four goals, including a natural hat trick after Amy Robinson had scored opener. Other assists went to Ryan Ferguson (2) and Sarah Grigor. Back in Oakville on Sept. 30, both Heather Garbutt and Charlotte Capaldo shared the shutout in a 3-0 win. Goals were scored by Giselle Panton, Melissa Sneddon and Tenille Clarke. The action started in Oakville with the Hornets and Flames bat tling to a 2-2 draw, followed the next day by another tie this time a 1-1 draw against the Flames. Goal scorers for Oakville were Caroline Davies, Melissa Kennedy and Kaitlyn Wheeler. Assists went to Taylor Metcalf® and Natalie Oreskovich. After the tight opening matches characterized by even play the girls were expecting two more of the same when they travelled north for a rematch a few days later. Instead they were surprised by a strong Flames team who after an even first period broke out for 4 goals in the second and third frames for a solid 4-0 win over the Hornets. Disappointed but not discouraged the girls vowed to have a bet ter showing the next day in Aurora and they were true to their word with a 5-0 win. Goals were scored by Laura Pendlebury (2), Melissa Kennedy, Justine Bemier and Melanie Johnson.
