The Tale o f a Town -- Canada is a theatre and media 10, with a reception at the Oakville Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre. The exhibit runs in the main gallery until Feb. 20. Admission is free. The Tale o f a Town --Canada project being developed in collaboration with The National Arts Centre of Canada, in commemoration of Canada' s 150th anniversary in 2017. The Tale of a Town -- Oakville project, presented by the Town of Oakville, in partnership with Fixt Point Productions, a non-profit theatre and media company, opened on Friday, Feb. began in 2014 at the National Arts Centre of Canada and then headed east to begin gathering stories and creating performances. In 2016, the project collected more than 100 stories from local residents about their memories of Oakville. The people who were interviewed included: community stakeholders, independent business owners, local heroes and neighbourhood residents. Many of these stories are of days gone by, said Rebecca Cotter, events supervisor, Town of Oakville Recreation and Culture. There are so many vibrant stories about Oakville' s downtown, she said, adding that this was a great opportunity to have these stories told. The exhibit includes: a slideshow of some of the people who were interviewed in Oakville; a Tiny Town display of Oakville that comes alive with touch-sensitive recordings; a story portal with listening stations to hear interviews about main street downtowns across Canada; and a recording booth where people can record new stories. In September, the exhibit will be brought to life in a stage production at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts. He' s been to more than 300 communities, so far. Although the places are different, Ketchabaw says there are some common threads to the collective history of Canada' s main streets and downtowns. He says there are two distinct points in time that have made an impact to the people he' s interviewed -- when trains no longer travelled into the community and consolidation of media ownership.
