I recently had an opportunity to attend a conference on harassment as a student representative. When I think of harass ment, the first thing that comes to mind is the school bully. However, this per spective is only one example of how the Board views the subject. The goal of the conference was to make all Board students and employees aware of the topic and suggest ways of coping with incidents that may occur in C KIDS SPEAK OUT School News our schools. It is a serious issue and one that must be dealt with if it occurs in our schools. According to the conference, harass ment is defined as: "A course of vexa tions, comments or conduct that is known to be unwelcome or ought rea sonably be known as unwelcome." 5 Loblaws FLYER It is important for all students to realize that no one has the right to harass you or place you in an uncom fortable situation. If you find yourself in such a situation, then tell the other party involved to stop. If the harass ment continues, then be sure to let a teacher, responsible adult or adminis trator know.
