Friday, N ovem ber 10, 2000 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER 35 Gallery lecture free with ticket for ` Artful Liaisons' raffle As part of Oakville G alleries' fall lecture series, Sensing A rt Through Sound, Sook-Yin Lee will give a talk on Tuesday, Nov. 14th at 7:30 p.m. in the gallery at Gairloch Gardens, 1306 Lakeshore Rd. E. Admission is $5. This lecture series was designed to bring together artists who share a common interest in utilizing sound to engage their audiences. Rather than focusing on the traditional visual arts, these lectures recognize the valuable role o f the other senses in the arts experience. Lee is recognized across Canada as a VJ on the Toronto-based music net work M uchM usic. At MuchM usic, she is the host o f the indie and alternative music program The Wedge as well as the producer, creator, writer, camera operator and host o f Eyeball Theatre, a critically acclaimed low-tech musical adventure. Lee's involvement in sound and music culture extends beyond her role as M uchM usic personality. She is a self-described crooner, songw riter, guitarist, noise specialist, performance artist, filmmaker, and actor. Exhibitions included in Sensing Art Through Sound are A Large Slow River by Janet Cardiff, which closes Nov. 26th, and Cinema, an inter-media exhibition by C hristian M arclay, which will run at Oakville Galleries in Gairloch Gardens from Dec. 9th to Feb. 4th. The next lecture will feature John Greyson, filmmaker, writer and artist on Tuesday, Nov. 28th at 7:30 p.m. in O akville G alleries at G airloch G ardens, 1306 Lakeshore Rd. E. Admission is $5 or free of charge with a raffle ticket. The raffle tickets are on sale as part of Oakville Galleries' second annual raffle, Artful Liaisons. Last year, the event raised money to enrich the galleries' public pro grams, which provide Oakville resi dents with activities such as outreach programs, tours, workshops, activity days and family days. This year's raffle will be held for the following prizes: a dining package o f gift certificates for 12 popular restaurants ($895 value). Traffic, a stunning silkscreen by Canadian artist Carl Beam ($1,340 value). $200 cash prize. $150 cash prize. wine lover's gift basket ($100 value).
