Notes
Minister from 1882 to 1885. Written on back of photograph is "Pat McDermott. Drunk again and so and so am I". On the front of the photograph is written "Rev. D. L. Brether, Methodist Church Minister, 1885." Obituary appeared in "Acton Free Press", on 8 October 1903, page 3, col. 2. 'Rev. D. L. Brethour, Ph.D., died suddenly at Niagara Falls South on Saturday. He was one of the pioneers of Methodism in Ontario, entering the Wesleyan Conference in 1860. He was President of Niagara Conference in 1887, and occupied positions of respeonsibility in the Church. He was an ardent advocate of prohibition and during his pastorate at Milton was one of the most effective workers for the adoption and enforcement of the Scott Act in the province.
