After a tentative 1-1 start against Thunder Bay, the Red Devils reeled off three crucial wins in a row. In the opener against Thunder Bay, Oakville took a quick 1-0 lead on a goal by Tremaine Leach who took advantage of a lovely through ball from Kyle Oliveira. But Thunder Bay fought back, taking advantage of some Oakville hesi tation to score against the run of play. Oakville scored only one goal in their next game, on a good foray by Junior Hoilett, but it stood up against a very skilled Wexford team. Brandon DeFazio was full value for the shutout. On Sunday the pitch turned ugly with torrential rain but it didn't affect the Oakville offence as they blasted Malton 8-1. There was real purpose behind the ever inflating score as Oakville went into the game knowing that if they reached a six-goal margin of victory they would only a need a tie in their final game against Woodbridge, tantamount to a 1-0 lead before the game even started. Scorers: Junior Hoilett (3), Gavin Russell (2), Matt Bandy, Kyle Oliveira, Alex Rickus. For the final game the pitch worsened even more and both Oakville and Woodbridge went into it even in points but with Oakville holding the tiebreaking trump card in the event of a draw. As it turned out, Oakville were able to advance in more emphatic fashion with a 2-0 victory. Both Oakville goals came on second half penalty kicks which were converted by Thomas McLean and Gavin Russell. BLIZZARD U-12 Oakville's other U-12 rep team, the Blizzard, were actually hosting their Ontario Cup round robin tourney at Shell Park. Mother Nature, however, got in the way, causing the last three games on Sunday to be cancelled. As of press time, the games had yet to be rescheduled. The Oakville Blizzard still looked to be in the running as they had an unde feated record through their first three games, defeating Scarborough 1-0, Thornhill 4-0 and drawing Burlington 3-3 (see photo). Oakville's one remining game is against London. The two other rescheduled games feature Burlington vs Scarborough; and Scarborough vs Thornhill.
