"The decision to put it on the agenda in that way, I'll accept full responsibility. There were reasons given why we did it. It was a very rare circumstance, but things were ongoing at the time," said Green. Oakville Mayor Rob Burton weighed in saying he was satisfied with the staff report and how the confidential item was handled by the Legal Department. see Mayor on p.23 Ward 4 Town and Regional Councillor Allan Elgar jumped on the Feb. 27 arrival of a closed door meeting report at Council to revisit how a confidential update on the Saw-Whet Ontario Municipal Board hearing was handled last May. Last November, the Town revealed the SawW het settlement with developers Bronte Green. At that time, Elgar complained that council discussed a verbal update on the issue May 16 -- but that it had gone to council unlabeled. He charged he' s never been "so blindsided" in his tenure on Council. "For myself, I don't recall getting anything ahead of time or a heads-up that anything big was coming to our P&D meeting on May 16. It bothers me and I don't know what we can do to solve this going forward," said Elgar. Because there was no advance notice given to Council and no further information released publicly on the update, Elgar wanted to know why it was listed "in this way" and who was responsible for it. "People kept asking, `When will Council deal with the Bronte Green application?' The truth was, as we learned in late November, that it was done May 16, as a staffer stated," said Elgar.
