Overcoming grief The Oakville Bereave ment Centre, a joint service of Halton Family Services and Bereaved Families of Ontario, presents speaker Dr. Bill Webster, at Oakville Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Rd., next Wednesday, June 28th, 7 p.m., in the Oakville Room. He will speak about Grief; The Healing Journey. Dr. Webster was bom in Scotland and attended uni versity in Glasgow and London, England, undertak ing work in arts and theolo gy. While in England, he met his future wife, Carolyn, and came to Canada to be mar ried. Sadly in 1983, his wife died suddenly and unexpect edly of a heart attack, leav ing him struggling to cope with his loss, as well as the responsibility of looking after his two sons, then only nine and seven. In 1983, Dr. Webster returned to school, complet ing a degree in psychology at Wilfrid Laurier University in 1986, before registering in his doctoral program at the University of Toronto. After graduating in 1990, seeking to develop this grief support work, Dr. Webster founded the Centre for the Grief Journey, of which he is the executive director. He facilitates grief support pro- D r. B ill W e b s t e r grams in numerous commu nities, offers individual and family grief counselling, conducts many professional seminars and educational programs and has authored several books on this topic. The Oakville Bereave ment Centre provides group counselling for those who have lost children, and group support for children, adoles cents and young adults who have experienced the loss of a parent or sibling, support for the loss of an infant, spouse, parent, sibling, or someone special. Model air show Sunday The Oakville Model Flying Club will hold its fifth annual Model Air Show at Drumquin Park this Sunday, June 25th, to collect food and raise money for the Fareshare Foodbank. The show will be held from 12:30 to 3 p.m., weath er permitting. Featured will be preci sion aerobatics, novelty air craft, model helicopters and a candy drop for the chil dren. After the show, try your hand at flying radio controlled model aircraft. Admission to the show is a donation, cash or food, for Fareshare. Two years ago, the show was attended by 1,000 peo ple, who donated 2,100 pounds of food and over $700 in cash donations. Fareshare is currently averaging 226 families per month, representing almost 700 individuals, most of them children. Drumquin Park is located on Britannia Road, about half a kilometres west of Trafalgar Road. Parking is free, however, bring lawn chairs and blankets. Food vendors will be on location.
