Keeping the family safe at festivals, concerts and carnivals can be a headache-and not just from summer heat. But it doesn't have to be that way, with a little planning and these tips from St. John Ambulance: · Rem em ber your sun safety. Even if it's cloudy, wear a shirt, a hat, and SPF 15 sunscreen. Reapply every four to six hours, or sooner if you're sweaty. · Drink lots o f fluids. W ater is best. Avoid alcohol, since it will only dehydrate you and make you thirstier. · Stick together. Plan a meeting place in case you get separat ed. Teach your children what to do if they get lost: stay put, hug a tree or post, and look for the nearest security guard or police officer. · Bring a band-aid. A simple first aid kit can prevent m inor injuries from becoming m ajor problem s. A fanny pack kit is per fect for families on the go. Some events (including the Oakville Waterfront Festival) have a St. John A m bulance booth or tent on the grounds; w e're always there to help! At Coronation Park, we will located at the centre o f Ring Road, and at the Bronte Waterfront Heritage Park near the main entrance. By thinking ahead and asking yourself what kinds o f situa tions or injuries are likely, you will be better prepared to face the day. Anything might happen-and St. John A m bulance wants your sum m er outings to be fun for everyone.
