The flexibility of the interior would allow it to go bushwacking on Sunday and than be re configured for taking the kids to school on Monday. The 24-7 pickup also would be available in four-wheel-drive while the coupe is very much urban in looks and spirit. While the technical advances seem somewhat in the future. Ford announced some of the telematics technology will be found this year in a new Lincoln and in the Ford Focus sold in Europe. The telematics and communi cations system was developed by Visteon Automotive Systems and uses advances like voice technol ogy to let drivers set controls and make phone calls or perform other functions like climate con trol by voice commands. It will also offer Internet access while rolling. A voice-activated re-configurable projected image display allows the driver to customize the instrument panel by changing the speedometer, fuel gauge and clock with simple voice com mands. With Internet access, 24-7 owners and passengers can check their e-mail, make hands free mobile phone calls, get real time information on road condi tions, get updates on the weather and even receive customized stock market tracking. It also features an advanced lighting system that provides instant illumination. The actual lights are designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle. "24-7 not only moves people physically from A to B, this new concept is designed to move peo ple emotionally and electronical ly," Mays said.
