Lister w on the Level 9, 15-and-older title w hile Connelly was the Level 7, 11-12 age group champion. Lister' s w inning total of 35.700 beat out 28 other competitors in Montreal. She tied for second in the floor routine, finished third in the vault and uneven bars and tied for third on the balance beam. Connelly, com peting in a field of 32, had an overall scored of 37.750 points, tied for first w ith Lauren Bell of Northern Stars Gym nastics. Connelly' s score was boosted by a first-place finish on the floor routine and a tie for third on uneven bars. Level 8s Soraya Shahani and Lauren Feaver w on silver medals in their age divisions. All-around bronzes went to Katheryn Doran (Level 10) and Elaine Cousin (Level 8). Alex Throndson (Level 9), Darby Quinn (Level 7), Taylor Spalding (Level 7) and Ella Carriere (Level 6) were fourth all around w hile Brielyn Young and Alyssa Rampersad placed fifth in their respective age groups. The gymnasts are gearing up for the pro vincial cham pionships scheduled for April 6-9 in Toronto. Starting the final run in fourth place, Eric Herauf saw no reason to hold anything back. "My first run I was a little conserva tive," he said. "The other guys were quite a bit ahead of m e, so I had nothing to lose and the course conditions were good." The strategy to go for it paid off as Herauf' s time of 45.79 sec onds was the best of the second run, m oving him up to third place with a time of f:3 f.3 f to claim the open boys' slalom bronze medal at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations alpine skiing championships at Blue Mountain. The only downside to his performance was that it bumped his Oakville Trafalgar teammate Mitchell W hite (1:31.75) off the podium. But W hite w ould not leave emptyhanded. With all five Oakville Trafalgar skiers fin ishing in the upper half of the 78-com peti tor field, the Red Devils took hom e the boys' slalom team championship. Herauf (third) and W hite (fourth) were joined by Mat thew Burnes (27 th), Evan Hayes (30 th) and Charlie Stanton (32nd). Oakville Trafalgar added a bronze medal in the boys' giant slalom, where Herauf was 12th, W hite 13th and Burnes 29th. Herauf, a Toronto Ski Club member, has been on the slopes since he was two and racing since he was five. W hile he used to enjoy speed events more, he has com e to appreciate technical races like the slalom. He finished sixth in the slalom at OFSAA last year. The Grade 11 student will lead a strong contingent of skiers next year. Stanton is the only member of the OT team graduating. Burnes is in Grade 9 w hile W hite and Hayes are in Grade 10. OT' s Lucy Pennyfather was sixth in the high school girls' slalom and giant slalom, where she m issed the podium by less than half a second. Iroquois Ridge' s Mikaela Loucks was 11th in the open girls slalom and OT' s Anna Bremermann was 13th.
