Wednesday, August 23, 2000 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT Som ething for the whole family at the Oakville Jazz and Bluesfest this weekend In conjunction with the Grand Open ing of the new Oakville Entertainment Centrum, the eighth annual Oakville Jazz and Bluesfest will kick off its fes tivities at PenEquity Management Cor poration's all-new entertainment desti nation on Friday, Aug. 25th. The ribbon cutting to open the Cen trum will be at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Hosted by PenEquity Management Corporation and co-sponsored by Ford of Canada, the festival begins at 7 p.m. on Aug. 25th and extends through Satur day and Sunday. With 2,200 parking spaces, the Oakville Entertainment Centrum (a.k.a. the AMC Theatre complex) is conve niently located at the northwest comer of Winston Churchill Boulevard and the QEW just minutes away from Hwy. 403. In the centre of the Centrum's recre ational area, PenEquity has developed a landscaped five-acre park, which will serve as the venue for the Oakville Jazz and Bluesfest. "Attracting over three million visi tors a year, the Oakville Entertainment Centrum has become the desired desti nation for local and area residents," explained Glenn Miller, president and CEO of PenEquity Management Corpo ration, which developed and manages the Centrum. "We are honoured that the Jazz and Bluesfest committee saw the potential of our site acting as the new home to their annual festival," he said. "It assures us that the Centrum has been successful in its intended purpose, which is to continue building a strong presence within the Oakville and sur rounding community." "We are inviting the whole communi ty to a great event in its own back yard," added Doug Peters, PenEquity vicepresident of planning and construction. `There is something for the whole family to enjoy, and jazz lovers can join blues aficionados in hearing some of the very best musicians playing anywhere today. It'll be great fun and a good opportunity to experience this fantastic new regional amenity. Be sure to bring a lawn chair or a blanket to enjoy the performances." As part of the Grand Opening festiv ities, the Centrum will feature clowns, face painters, henna tattoo artists, a firebreather performer, a strolling magician, balloon artists and a marching brass band. A T-shirt vendor will provide Jazz and Bluesfest T-shirts for purchase at the festival with proceeds going to sup port future jazz performances in the Oakville community. A live auction will be hosted by the Mayor Ann Mulvale before Saturday night's headlining act, the Christian McBride Quartet. In addition to PenEquity Manage ment Corporation and Ford of Canada, the Oakville Jazz and Bluesfest is made possible due to the support of Alice Fazooli's Italian Crabshack, AMC Win ston 24 Theatre, Molson Breweries, Sobey's and other local businesses, as well as the Town of Oakville and Oakville Hydro. The Centrum Gold Pass, which costs $5, allows entrance to the park for three days of music (children under age 15 are admitted free). It can also be used for numerous other incentives at some of the other establishments on Site. In addition, the festival's proceeds will support Big Brothers and Big Sis ters of Oakville as well as future live jazz performances in the Oakville com munity. The Oakville Jazz and Bluesfest is a not-for-profit organization. Its major sponsor, PenEquity Management Cor poration, is a Canadian company that supports many Oakville events, includ ing the Oakville Waterfront Festival, the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, the Mayor's Invitational Charity Golf Tournament and the annual Santa Claus parade.
