The board will consolidate three schools (Holy Family, St. John and St. Michael) into one facility on St. Michael' s current site. Some stu dents currently attending St. John would be di rected to Our Lady of Peace. Two schools (Holy Family and St. John) would close as a result of the preferred accommodation plan approved by the board -- contingent on whether funding is approved by the Ontario Ministry of Education for the new facility; In that case, a transition com mittee would be established and would decide on how to proceed with a possible new name for the school. The Oakville Beaver regrets the error and any inconvenience it may have caused. Prescribing standards coming continued from p.10 Kempkens told councillors the provincial government is developing evidence-based standards for health care providers on appro priate opioid prescribing, which are due to be released by the end of 2017-18. Fogal said it was good to see changes to the prescription of opioids. "It may take some time before we see a change in behaviour," Kempkens added. Locally, the Halton Equitable Drug Strategy (HEDS) has conducted community consul tations, over the last four years, about sub stance issues in the region and will begin to implement strategies based on these findings. The strategy is a collaborative plan to im prove the health, safety and well-being of Halton residents by working together to reduce the harms associated with substance abuse. Another pro-active step the Region is tak ing is making Naloxone kits available through the Region' s Sexual Health clinics and the Needle Exchange Program. The kits are advertised through community agencies that work with patients who are at risk of substance overdose, local pharmacies and the health department at clinical service locations. Trained health department staff is autho rized to distribute naloxone nasal spray to patients who use opioids, their friends and family members. They are also authorized and trained to administer naloxone if they are somewhere where an opioid overdose occurs. Naloxone kits are also available at 21 phar macies in Halton for free, although Kempkens says people should call ahead to the pharmacy to ensure the kit is available. All Halton paramedics are equipped to treat opioid-related emergencies, in response to calling 911.
