He said this is a situation where "spoofing" is involved, where the caller can change or hide their number to fool their intended target. The phone scam sees a caller use highpressure tactics to get victims to disclose personal information and/or hand over money. Recently, fraudsters have been urging victims to visit a local store to purchase Apple iTunes cards and give redemption codes to the caller. "If you ever think, `I might owe money,' ask for their name and tell them you're going to hang up and call them back. Get their name and department. If they're legitimate, they will tell you no problem," said Meyer. "If it' s a scammer, they're going to tell you if you hang up that phone, they're going to come to your door to arrest you."
