Damoff shared a story of F o x involving his love of basketball, a sport not many people knew he played, in elementary and high school. "The coach told him he was too small, he wasn't fast enough... being Terry F o x, he didn't take that for an answer, so he practised harder than anybody else. In high school, he actually made the basketball team," said Damoff. "It shows, even from a young age, this was a young man who was determined to make things happen." She said F o x was determined, courageous and brave, someone who "reached for the m oon," but was also very humble. "He was really just an ordinary man, who did extraordinary things," said Damoff. The Oakville North-Burlington MP noted the Oakville Terry F o x Run has raised more than $ 2 million in its 35-year history for the Terry F o x Foundation. The goal this year is to raise $150 ,0 0 0 , with 8 4 cents of every dollar collected going directly to cancer research. Flynn called the Terry F o x story "such a Canadian story" and noted F o x ' s accomplishments make it easy for people to participate in the run to give that "extra little push." The 2 0 1 7 Oakville Terry F o x Run will be held Sunday, Sept. 17 at Coronation Park, 1426 Lakeshore Rd.
