Council voted to strengthen the town's private tree protection by-law in October 2016 to better protect significant and healthy trees on all private properties to sustain Oakville's canopy coverage, and directed staff to present the changes to the by-law early in 2017. The new by-law will mean that property owners who wish to remove any healthy tree greater than 15 centimetres in diameter from their property will require a permit and may also be required to plant new trees to compensate for the canopy loss. For details of the proposed new by-law visit oakville.ca. The decision of the CSC will be forwarded to Council for consideration on Monday, May 1, 2017 at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber.
