Actively managed, and expensive, mutual funds in the United States lost $342 billion as a result of clients withdrawing their m oney That is an amazingly high am ount of with drawals. Particularly because the stock market has had attractive returns during that period so you w ould think that many investors w ould be satisfied. Guess where the m oney went? Over $500 billion of new m oney was invested in low cost passive index and exchange traded funds. The beginning of the end has started. Fi nally, w e see that logic w ill prevail. For som e the transition will be hard. They look back at past successful invest m ent decisions and think they have the abil- ity to maintain that w inning streak. The soul-searching question is whether past periodic stock market victories were just plain good luck. W hat is the probability of being lucky again? There are m any things for investors to consider. After careful thought, decide how you invest your funds. High priced managers, including those w ho manage your mutual funds, do not justify their high fees w hen you look at past performance. The more m oney they make the less m on ey you make.There are better investm ent al ternatives with lower fees and the likelihood of better returns. These are the types of investments you should own.
