But it was also one goal from having its season come to an end. "It' s a scary feeling," said Hornets' captain Emma Maltais. "It' s such a special group, w e didn't want that to be our last gam e." Oakville w ent 3-0 to w in its pool at the OWHA tour nament and its reward was a quarter-final date with the W hitby Wolves. "It had been back and forth all gam e," said Hornets' coach Bradi Cochrane. "It was a stressful game, even for the coaches." Then with two m inutes to play in over time, Maltais picked up a rebound off Annie MacDonald' s shot and fired hom e the winner in a 3-2 win. Oakville w ould go on to beat the Stoney Creek Sa bres 3-0 in the final, becom ing the first team since the Toronto Aeros in 2006 to sw eep all three intermediate AA titles. "We knew it was going to be a hard task to w in provin cials. To finish off (the triple crown), w e knew it was go ing to be really tough," Maltais said. "Provincials are such a different game. Games are shorter and you have to be really disciplined." Emma M altais "Provincials, anything can Hornets captain happen," Cochrane said. "We had a couple fantastic leaders w ith Maltais and (Meaghan) Hector. It helped to have a couple of players w ho had been through it before (winning the OWHA title in 2015). They helped keep the kids focused." That included com ing back to beat a tough Nepean team 3-1 in the semifinals after the overtime victory. In the final, Oakville again m et Stoney Creek, a team the Hornets eliminat ed in a best-of-five series during the PWHL playoffs. But w inning a series and a one-game show dow n is totally different. "They have been one of the toughest rivals m y w hole minor hockey career," Mal tais said. "I'm always so anxious for games against Stoney Creek." Stoney Creek was the last team to beat the Hornets, taking Game 3 of their series 1-0. But in the final, Oakville blanked the Sa bres for its 11th straight win. "Even more than in the league, you need to be getting contributions from everyone in a short tournament," Cochrane said. "That was even more evident at pro vincials with everyone chipping in." The OWHA victory saw the Hor nets achieve all of their lofty pre-sea son goals. "Everybody sets their goals high. You have to set the bar high to have som ething to strive for," Cochrane said.
